Elmer Raguse

Elmer Raguse (full name Elmer Raguse Roy, born May 9, 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts, † March 2, 1972 in Palm Beach, Florida) was an American sound engineer.

Biography

Elmer Raguse began his film career in the recording studio of Hal Roach, whose director he was. Until 1932 he worked on the set itself, then delegated from this work to others while he himself took care of the sound mix. At the time this work was a one-man job. In a small society like Hal Roach, the engineer was also responsible for the sound editing of sound and music for short films. Until 1931 Raguse worked almost exclusively short films, such as films of the series The Little Rascals and movies with the comedy duo Laurel and Hardy.

Raguse worked on over 100 productions for cinema and television. He was nominated eight times for an Oscar, but could not win it. After his retirement from public life in 1966, he spent the remaining six years of his life in Florida until he passed away in Palm Beach on March 2, 1972.
