The coat of arms of Laos was amended in 1991 to provisionally last time.
Description
The Lao coat of arms shows the national shrine Pha That Luang.
Furthermore, a dam as a symbol of power generation at the dam Nam Ngun, a paved road and stylized irrigated fields are shown.
In the lower part a portion of a gear is shown in rainbow colors. The two inscriptions left and right in preach Laotian writing the slogans of the country:

Symbolism
The National Shrine of That Luang symbolizes the unity of all Laotians. The forest stands for nature, the rice field for agriculture. The gear and the power plant Nam Ngum symbolize the emerging industry.
History
In what year Laos took its first coat of arms, is not known. As a role model but served with the emblem of the national flag.
The coat of arms was changed in the early 1990s. The existing until then communist symbols red star and hammer and sickle were replaced by the national shrine Pha That Luang.
