Emil Stang

Emil Stang ( born June 14, 1834 in Christiania, † July 4, 1912 ) was a Norwegian conservative politician and lawyer. He was the first chairman of the Conservative Party Høyre and Norwegian Prime Minister from 1889 to 1891 and again from 1893 to 1895.

He sat from 1883 to 1894 and again from 1898 to 1900 as a Member of the Norwegian Parliament Storting. Already at the beginning of Stang's second government, Parliament stated his distrust. Although in 1884 the parliamentary principle of majority rule was established, he stayed with his ministers and a half years in office.

Stang was in 1890 awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav. He also received the Grand Cross of the Order of the North Star and the Red Eagle.

His sons were Emil Stang and Fredrik Stang.
