Emilio Vedova
Emilio Vedova ( born August 9, 1919 in Venice, † October 25, 2006 in Venice) was an Italian painter of the Informal.
Life and work
Vedova worked from 1930 to 1935 with a photographer and a restorer and attended evening school for art at the Carmini. Between 1936 and 1943 he lived alternately in Rome, Venice and Florence.
Emilio Vedova was a major representative of the Italian Informal painting of the fifties and early sixties of the 20th century. He was a member of various art groups, including the Corrente (1942 ), Fronte Nuovo delle Arti ( as co-founder, 1946) and Gruppo degli Otto ( 1952) since the forties.
In 1947, Emilio Vedova first time participated in the Biennale of Venice. In 1955, the artist participated in the documenta 1 and 1959 documenta 2 in Kassel. He received in 1960 the Grand Prize at the Venice Biennale. He was also a participant of the documenta III in 1964 and documenta 7 in Kassel in 1982. He was awarded an Antonio Feltrinelli Prize in 1993.
Emilio Vedova died on 25 October 2006 at the age of 87 years in his hometown of Venice.
