Enrique Bolaños

Enrique Bolaños Geyer ( born May 13, 1928 in Masaya ) from 2002 until January 2007 President of the Republic of Nicaragua. He is Spanish - German descent. Successor as president, Daniel Ortega.

Career

After studying in St. Louis, USA Bolaños took over in 1952 the cotton operation of his parents and led the company until 1977. According to the Nicaraguan revolution in 1979, he joined in the 80s on as opponents of the Sandinistas and was temporarily detained. After he had contributed in 1995 as campaign manager of Alianza Liberal (AL) to victory by Arnoldo Alemán, he was Vice President from 1996 to 2001. On November 4, 2001, he won the presidential election against Daniel Ortega of the FSLN for the Liberal - Conservative Party Liberal Party Constitucionalista (PLC).

Family

Bolaños was married from 1949 until her death in 2008 with Purple Abaunza. They have five children.
