Enrique de la Mata

Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga ( born September 20, 1933, Teruel, † September 6, 1987 in Rome) was a Spanish lawyer, politician and diplomat. He appeared in the years 1976/1977 in a transitional government after the death of Francisco Franco as Minister of Trade Union Relations and from 1979 to 1982 as a Member of the Spanish Parliament. From 1981 to 1987 he served as president of the League of Red Cross Societies, which adopted the name League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies during his tenure.

Life

Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga was born in 1933 in Teruel and received at the University of Madrid a law degree. He then worked as a notary in 1960. From 1967 to 1969 he served as President of the Assembly of the Spanish Red Cross ( Cruz Roja Española ) and then to 1975 as Director of the Spanish Social Security ( Seguridad Social).

After the death of Francisco Franco in 1975, and thus the end of the dictatorship, he appeared on 5 July 1976 to 4 July 1977 in an up to the first free elections incumbent transitional government as minister of trade union relations, and wore during this period for re- registration of trade unions in Spain at. From 1979 to 1982 he served as deputy of the civil party Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD), the first democratically elected prime minister of Spain, Adolfo Suárez presented with, the Spanish Parliament to.

In 1981 he took over from Nigerian Joseph Adetunji Adefarasin the office of President of the League of Red Cross Societies, which was renamed two years after he took office in League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. In 1985 he was elected for another four years in office, but died in 1987 at the age of 53 years in Rome of a heart attack. The Office of the President of the League took over temporarily Kurt Bolliger, who was president of the Swiss Red Cross ex officio Vice President of the League. Successor by Enrique de la Mata was Gorostizaga Mario Villarroel Lander, the lawyer from Venezuela.
