Enzo Pietropaoli

Enzo Pietropaoli ( born September 29, 1955 in Genoa ) is an Italian jazz bassist.

Life and work

Pietropaoli lived in Rome since 1961. In 1975, he debuted in "Trio di Roma " with pianist Danilo Rea and Roberto Gatto on drums. With Gatto he also played in the 1980s in the group Lingomania and in the 1990s in "Doctor 3". Together with pianist Enrico Pieranunzi he played in the late 1980s in the "Space Jazz Trio". With all three groups, he won several times the Poll of the Italian magazine " Musica Jazz" as best Italian group (Space Jazz Trio in 1988 and 1989, Lingomania 1988, Doctor 3 in the years 1999, 2001, 2003). He also played with many international jazz greats - including Chet Baker, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Toots Thielemans, Richard Galliano, Archie Shepp, John Abercrombie, Michael Brecker, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Johnny Griffin, Joe Pass, Kenny Clarke, Curtis Fuller, Woody Shaw, Lester Bowie - and toured the world. He played in the quintet by Enrico Rava and Paolo Fresu ( " Shades of Chet " 1999) and can be heard on over 60 recordings, including four as a leader. In his play he processed alongside jazz and classical influences ( Johannes Brahms ), Italian music of the 1960s and pop.
