Erechim

Erechim (also Erexim ) is a town (Portuguese: município ) in the north of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, near the border of Santa Catarina.

Covering an area of ​​430.76 km ² live 96 310 inhabitants ( estimation of 2004). The inhabitants are mainly of Italian, German, Polish, and Jewish descent.

1908, the first settlers of European descent arrived in the area of the present town and founded the settlement on the railway line that runs from Rio Grande do Sul to the state of São Paulo. The settlement was first appointed to a district of the city of Passo Fundo. On April 30, 1918, she was elevated to the status of a município.
