Eric Caldow

Eric Caldow ( born May 14, 1934 in Cumnock ) is a former Scottish football player and coach. The five-time Scottish champions and long-time full-back of the Glasgow Rangers completed 40 caps for the Scottish national team, and participated in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

Playing career

Caldow visited in his home in East Ayrshire Cumnock the Academy and was spotted at the age of 14 years by the Glasgow Rangers. However, the Scottish giants had Caldow first at the Muirkirk Juniors play and then signed him 18 years old. The full-back was there at the side of successful players like Willie Woodburn, Sammy Cox and Willie Waddell on September 12, 1952 in a 4-2 win at Ibrox Stadium home against Ayr United on his debut, and graduated in the first season 13 competitive games. On the right -back position Caldow was from the 1955/56 season regulars, winning its first Scottish Championship. His active career he trailed off at Stirling Albion before signing on as player-coach for the English club Corby Town in 1968.

After the active career

After involvement in Corby, he returned to his native Ayrshire and trained from 1970 Hurlford United. Three years later he moved into the second Scottish League and oversaw the FC Stranraer. This he left in 1975 and only came back again as a scout at Queens Park Rangers in the football business in appearance.
