Erol Bilgin

Erol Bilgin (born 20 February 1987 in Kütahya ) is a Turkish weightlifter. He was 2009 and 2010 European champion in single combat at featherweight.

Career

Erol Bilgin began playing sports club Kütahya Gençlik Merkisi SK 1998 with the weight lifting. After two years he moved to Tarim Kredi Sports Club SK. The 1.59 meter tall athlete starts since he is a senior at featherweight, the weight category to 62 kg body weight. His coach is Hilmi Pekünlü.

He was in the years 2002 to 2004 with great success already as a junior and won in this age group, several European title. At the Junior World Championships 2004 in Minsk, he won the silver medal with 250 kg ( 115-135 ) in a duel behind the Chinese Li Zheng, who reached 272.5 kg ( 120 to 142.5 ) bantamweight.

In 2005 he started for the first time at the European Championship. He finished second in Sofia bantamweight 265 kg ( 120-145 ) in a duel behind compatriot Sedat Artuc, the 275 kg ( 125-150 ) came 2nd place. 2006, he reached at the Universities Championships in Izmir featherweight 285 kg ( 125-160 ) 2nd place. Here, again placed a Chinese, Zhang Jie, before him, who overcame a total of 290 kg ( 130-160). At the European Championships in 2007 in Strasbourg he came, starting at featherweight, to 286 kg ( 128-158 ), with whom he and Henadzi Machweyenia from Belarus finished 3rd behind Petrosian Sergei from Russia.

In 2008, Erol Bilgin occupied at the European Championships in Lignano again the 2nd place, but this time at featherweight. He managed this 295 kg ( 135-160 ) and had just the starting for Russia Armenian Sergey Petrosyan, who scored 302 kg ( 135-167 ), defeated. At the Olympic Games in Beijing, he was not at the start.

After Erol Bilgin was successful in 2009 already at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara featherweight 293 kg ( 138-155 ), he won then in Bucharest also his first European title in single combat. He scored back again 293 kg ( 133-160 ) and referred Zulfugar Suleimanow from Azerbaijan, 285 kg and Dimitris Minasidis from Cyprus, 284 kg places. He then started also at the 2009 World Championships in Goyang / South Korea and scored 290 kg ( 135-155 ). He had to realize that its Asian competitors are still one step ahead of him, because he came there only the 11th Place. The winner Ding Jianjun of China won the world title with 316 kg ( 146-170 ).

On April 6, 2010 Erol Bilgin won in Minsk for the second time European champion featherweight title. He mastered it in a duel 304 kg ( 139-165 ), which he won ahead of Romanians Antoniu Buci, 300 kg and Zulfugar Suleimanow, 294 kg. With regard to the held in Antalya in autumn 2010 World Cups for him was particularly important that he significantly increased after two years of performance-related stagnation in single combat.

Bilgin was in the squad of the Turkish team for the Olympic Summer Games in 2012.
