Erythronium klamathense is a species of the genus of the tooth lilies ( Erythronium ).

Features

The bulbs are 25 to 40 millimeters tall and slim. The leaves are 6 to 17 inches long. The leaf blade is lanceolate to nearly ovate, bent more or less along the middle nerve and green. The leaf margin is entire to wavy. The shaft is 6 to 20 inches long. The inflorescence is one to dreiblütig.

The petals are 20-35 mm long and broadly lanceolate. They are two-thirds or more white and have a yellow area at its base. By the time they turn more or less pale pink. The inner petals are slightly auriculate at the base. The stamens are 8 to 14 millimeters long. The stamens are slender and white. The anthers are more or less yellow. The pens are 4-9 mm long and white. The scar is almost unlobed. The capsules are 2-5 inches tall and almost obovate.

The flowering time is in the late spring and summer from April to June.

The chromosome number is 2n = 24

Occurrence

Erythronium klamathense occurs in California and Oregon. The species grows in montane meadows and clearings in coniferous forests at altitudes from 1200 to 1900 meters.
