Essam Sharaf

Essam Abdel Aziz Sharaf (Arabic عصام عبد العزيز شرف, DMG ʿ ʿ Abdu l - ʿ Issam Azeez Šaraf; * 1952 in the province of Al- Giza ) is an Egyptian politician and served between 3 March 2011 and 22 November of the same year, Prime Minister of Egypt. It was in the aftermath of the revolution against Hosni Mubarak 's first civilian premier in the country, however, led a short-lived transitional government, the Cabinet Sharaf.

Life

Sharaf received in 1975 a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cairo in 1980 and a master's degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. In 1984 he received his doctorate of traffic engineering at Purdue University. In 1985 he became Assistant Professor at the University of Cairo. After six years at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 1996, he received a full professorship at the University of Cairo. He was on 13 July 2004 to 31 December 2005 Transport Minister in the Cabinet Nazif. From this post he resigned after a deadly train crash due to a lack of resources in his opinion, to improve the Egyptian railway system.

From 2006 he was again professor of road maintenance and construction at the University of Cairo. He also founded the non-governmental organization Age of Science that seeks to promote knowledge and modern science in the Egyptian society and belong to, inter alia, the Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail and the Egyptian- American geologist Farouk al - Baz. The revolution in Egypt in 2011, he expressed his support early on, which is why it was proposed that the SCAF out of the opposition for the office of prime minister in the transitional period and welcomes appointment of many opposition groups.

Scharafs father was a professor of veterinary medicine, four of his siblings were or are also active as professors.
