Estella Agsteribbe

Estella "Stella" Agsteribbe ( born April 6, 1909 in Amsterdam, † September 17, 1943 in Auschwitz ) was a Dutch gymnast.

About half of the Dutch gymnasts at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 were of Jewish descent. So also Agsterribe Estella, Estella later Blits - Agsterribe. She became Olympic Champion in the all around with the Dutch team. It was the first winning a gold medal Dutch women in the history of the Olympic Games.

In September 1943, she was murdered along with her six year old daughter Nanny and her two- year-old son Alfred in the extermination camp Auschwitz. Her husband, Samuel Blits, died on April 28, 1944 in Auschwitz.

The other gymnasts of the Gold team in 1928, who were of Jewish descent, were murdered by the Nazis: Helena Nordheim, Anna Polak and Judikje Simons. Only Elka de Levie survived.
