Helena Nordheim

Helena " Lea " Nordheim ( born August 1, 1903 in Amsterdam, † July 2, 1943 in Sobibor extermination camp ) was a Dutch gymnast.

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 she became Olympic Champion in the all around with the Dutch team. It was the first winning a gold medal Dutch women in the history of the Olympic Games.

She was one of five gymnasts the Gold team in 1928, who were of Jewish descent. In June 1943 she was interned in the transit camp Westerbork with her husband Abraham Kloot and her ten- year-old daughter Rebecca. From there, the family was deported to the extermination camp Sobibor, where they were murdered immediately upon arrival on 2 July 1943 in the gas chamber.

The other gymnasts of the Gold team in 1928, who were of Jewish descent, were murdered by the Nazis: Estella Agsteribbe, Anna Polak and Judikje Simons. Only Elka de Levie survived.
