Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic

The Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic (abbreviation: ESSR, Estonian: Eesti Nõukogude Sotsialistlik Vabariik, abbreviated: Eesti NSV or ENSV, Russian Эстонская ССР / Estonskaja SSR) was from 1940 to 1990, a Union Republic of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

In 1990 she became the Republic of Estonia, which parliament declared independence on 20 August 1991. At a formal withdrawal from the Soviet Union was abandoned here since the annexation by the Soviet Union is regarded as illegal under international law and therefore not binding.

The anthem of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic, "Live on, you strong people of Kaleviden " comes from Gustav Ernesaks (music) and John Semper ( text).
