Ethan Stiefel

Ethan Stiefel (born 1973 in Tyrone, Pennsylvania) is an American ballet dancer. He holds the rank of Principal dancer held at the American Ballet Theatre.

Life

Ethan Stiefel began his training at the age of eight years in Madison, Wisconsin. He continued his ballet training at the Milwaukee Ballet School and the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet before he studied in New York at the American Ballet Theatre 's School of Classical Ballet and the School of American Ballet. At age 16, he was engaged in the Corps de Ballet of New York City Ballet ( NYCB ) and won a silver medal at the Prix de Lausanne. In 1992 he was named the New York Times Dancer of the Year.

1995, just 22 years old, he was appointed to the NYCB Principal Dancer and danced many leading roles in choreographies by Balanchine, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stars and Stripes, Symphony in C, Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux and others. He stepped into his time at NYCB also in works by Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins among others, and was a guest dancer with the Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Theatre and Teatro Colon.

In 1997 Boots as Principal Dancer in the neighboring American Ballet Theatre. Among his classic title roles there included Afternoon of a Faun far, Solor in La Bayadère, Franz in Coppélia, Albrecht in Giselle and Jean de Brienne in Raymonda, together with others. He also appeared in modern pieces, including by Twyla Tharp, and created numerous roles, including Black Tuesday and Hereafter ( Heaven).

Boots played in 2000 the role of Cooper Nielson in the U.S. the film Center Stage as 2008 in the sequel to Center Stage 2

Since 2007 Boots dean of the School of Dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
