Étival-Clairefontaine

Étival - Clairefontaine is a commune with 2562 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in Lorraine. It belongs to the district of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges, the Canton of Raon- l'Étape and is the seat of the municipal association founded in 1998, Ban d' Étival.

Geography

The community Étival - Clairefontaine is located in the valley of the Meurthe in the Vosges Mountains, about ten kilometers north-west of Saint- Dié -des- Vosges.

Neighboring communities of Étival - Clairefontaine are Raon- l'Étape in the north, Moyenmoutier to the east, La Voivre the southeast, Nompatelize in the south, Saint -Remy in the southwest, Saint- Benoît- la- Chipotte in the west and Sainte -Barbe in the northwest.

Attractions

The most important sight in the village is the Romanesque church of " Notre -Dame " from the 12th century, once the monastery church, founded about the middle of the 7th century abbey Étival. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and blown up during the Second World War by German soldiers, but then rebuilt.
