Eudonia lacustrata is a butterfly of the family Crambidae. It is widely distributed in Europe.

Features

Eudonia lacustrata reaches a wingspan up to 18 millimeters. The forewings are pale gray to whitish with dark drawing. In the field at the outer end of the front wing outweigh the dark areas. The hind wings are creamy white with a slightly darker edge area.

Occurrence

The range of this species covers the whole of Europe and North West Africa and runs through Turkey, Syria, Iran, Siberia to western China. In Northern Europe, the kind missing in Lapland. You will not rise above the tree line in the mountains. In Iran and Armenia, the species is represented by the subspecies Eudonia lacustrata persica. She lives in the bush, open woods and in gardens.

Way of life

The moths fly from May to October depending on the region, in the north usually somewhat later. The oligophagen caterpillars appear then from September; they also overwinter and feed on mosses. Proven forage plants are Widertonmoose ( Polytrichum ), Pottiaceae ( Tortella ), Hypnum ( sleep mosses) and Isothecium ( Fam Brachytheciaceae ). They live in a cocoon on the moss.

Taxonomy

In previous work, the type appears under the name Scoparia crataegella. However, this name is invalid. Enters the first available valid name introduced in its place he Eudonia lacustrata ( Panzer, 1804). Often, the combination Dipleurina lacustrata used. However, the genus Dipleurina in the latest publications is considered a synonym of the genus Eudonia. The species is divided into two subspecies: the nominotypical subspecies Eudonia lacustrata lacustrata that occurs in the larger part of the range and Eudonia lacustrata persica Leraut, 1984, which is detected in Iran and Armenia.
