Eugen Freiherr von Gorup-Besanez

Eugen Franz Freiherr von gorup - Besanez ( born January 15, 1817 in Graz, † November 24, 1878 in Erlangen, Germany ) was a German chemist and university teacher.

Life

Eugen gorup of Besanez attended the Humanist schools in Graz and Klagenfurt. From 1836 he devoted himself to the study of medicine in Vienna and Padua. From 1839 he continued his studies in Munich. In the same year he joined the Corps Bavaria Munich.

Gorup of Besanez doctorate in 1842 in Munich, then studied chemistry in Munich and Göttingen, 1849 habilitated in Erlangen, in 1849 associate, in 1855 Professor of Chemistry in Erlangen and Director of the Laboratory of the University.

Gorup of Besanez provided numerous important studies in the field of organic and physiological chemistry and is regarded as the most important promoter of zoochemischen analysis. Several of his works have been translated into several languages. One of his students was Heinrich von Ranke.

Gorup of Besanez died on 24 November 1878 in Erlangen.

His publisher Heinrich Vieweg entrusted in 1880 at the instigation of Hermann Kolbe his nephew Hermann Ostmit the revision of the textbook of organic chemistry for teaching at universities, technical colleges and for private study.
