Eugen Napoleon Neureuther

Eugen Napoleon Neureuther ( born January 13, 1806 in Munich, † March 23, 1882 ) was a German painter, draftsman and etcher. He is a son of the painter Ludwig Neureuther ( 1775-1830 ). His great-grandson is the former ski racer Christian Neureuther (born 1949).

Life

Eugen Napoleon Neureuther attended the Munich Academy of 1823, held in 1830 in Paris, 1838 in Rome and was formed mainly under the influence of Cornelius, who entrusted him with decorations in the Glyptothek. In 1848 he became head of the artistic part of the royal porcelain factory Nymphenburg, which place he held until the sale of the institution in 1856. 1868-1877 he worked as a professor at the Royal School of Applied Arts.

Neureuther had a fruitful activity unfolds, especially in illustrations and arabesques to seals. He established his reputation by marginal drawings in Goethe's Ballads and Romances (Munich 1829-1840 ). This was followed by, among other things Souvenir du 27, 28, 29 juillet 1830 ( Paris 1831), Bavarian Mountain songs with pictures etc. (Munich 1833-34 ). For the Munich Kunstverein he erased a Sleeping Beauty by Grimm's Fairy Tales (1835 ). In the same year he painted the scenes from Christoph Martin Wieland Königsbau Oberon. For the deluxe edition of Johann Gottfried Herder's Cid (Stuttgart 1838), he delivered 70 illustrations. He also illustrated some of Goethe poems, Franz von Kobellsche songs in Bavarian dialect, Zedlitz ' Waldfräulein, the Becker's Rhine song, etc., put the Künstlermaskenzug 1840 in Arabeskenform is (1844 of him etched into steel) and delivered a series admirable etchings by Rottmann arcades frescoes.
