Eugène Trutat

Charles Louis Eugène Trutat ( born August 25, 1840 in Vernon, Eure; † August 6, 1910 in Foix, Ariège) was a French photographer, Pyrenees mountain climber, geologist and naturalist. He was curator of the Musée d' Histoire naturelle in Toulouse.

Biography

He is actively involved in exploring the Pyrenees, Luchon and mainly in the department of Ariège. From 1859 he began to photograph and regularly published books about the subject. There are received from him about 20,000 photographs, including Autochrome color images. Trutat was president of the Société photographique of Toulouse and a member of the Commission for the classification of important buildings as a monument ( Monument historique ) in Toulouse.

He led the Aneto and Maladeta together with Moritz Gourdon, studies on glaciers, and measured by its increase.

In 1876 he founded with Charles Fabre, the section of the Club Alpin Français centrales Pyrenees.

Work

The Bibliothèque de Toulouse preserved a fund of 5,000 photographs on glass plates that have arisen 1870-1910 in the Pyrenees. The Muséum national d' histoire naturelle has 15,000 plates, originated from 1875 to 1910, including Autochrome and the only photographs of the floods of 1875 in Toulouse.

His photographs cover a wide spectrum and form a source of information for the Pyrenees, at the end of the 19th century: landscapes, monuments, daily life, climbing and excursions as well as his friends among the Pyrénéisten and Mountain Guides: Maurice Gourdon, Émile Belloc, Henri Beraldi, etc.

Henri Beraldi said of him: Trutat of the Apostles has been, the creator of the Pyrénéistenkonferenz; a simple and elegant master of ceremonies, as a professor with a long experience in teaching in front of a busy audience ( at the Museum of Toulouse), yet it was he who held the true principle of slide lectures: little talk and never introductory considerations, the public impatience with the hoofs pawing " immediately forth with magic Lantern! " And that is a slide lecture: it is the light image with as little talk as possible. It has come under the dead Kurzweil.
