European Commissioner for Consumer Protection

The Commissioner for Consumer Policy (until 2010 Commissioner for Consumer Protection) was an official title for a member of the European Commission. He was affiliated to the Directorate-General Health and Consumers.

The responsibility for consumer protection has been changed frequently in Ressortneuzuschnitten in the European Commission. As a separate division was spun off in January 2007 from the responsibility of the Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, as after EU enlargement in 2007 departments for the two additional Commissioners were necessary.

In the Barroso II Commission, which took office in February 2010, Health and Consumer Policy, however, were united together again. Current Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy is Neven Mimica.
