The European Shorthair ( in the WCF Celtic Shorthair, mentioned in the FIFé Europeans ) is a cat breed. The European Shorthair is - in contrast to other pedigree cats (which are also among the domestic cat ) - bred planned only a few breeders. Your ancestors are ordinary house and village cats. The recognition of the European Shorthair as a breed took place only in 1982.

The development of the European Shorthair is mainly attributed to the wild cat, an African cat. The wild cat has striking similarities to the domestic cat in physique, skull and tooth position. The European wildcat is hardly related to the domestic cat, matings are possible, also occur, but have virtually no impact on the particularities of the European Shorthair.

The body of the European Shorthair is strong, muscular and stocky not like the Persians or the British Shorthair. The chest is wide, almost massive. The legs are of medium length and muscular and end in round paws. The head is large, the eyes asked around with mildly to moderately long, slightly concave nose angle. The ears are set wide apart, medium in size and are almost upright. Width and height of the ears are approximately equal. Ear tufts may be present. The coat is dense, the tail is strong and tapers toward the tail end, which is slightly rounded. The cats of this breed are considered intelligent, affectionate and loving. There are lively animals that feel most comfortable in the outdoors; a garden is ideal for them.
