Evgeny Pechonkin

Yevgeny Gennadjewitsch Petschonkin (in Russian Евгений Геннадьевич Печёнкин, English transcription Yevgeniy Pechonkin, . Born October 9, 1973 in Krasnodar ) is a Russian bobsledder and former hurdler who specialized discipline was the 110-meter distance.

Athletics

In 1992, he won the gold medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Seoul, as a member of the United team. In addition, he appeared also in the long jump and secured the fifth place. At the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993, he retired, however, already in the run in fifth with a time of 13.85 s.

In 1996, he was able to win the silver medal in the team event, designed as Athletics European Cup. In the same year he retired at the Atlanta Olympics with 13.86 seconds in fifth place in the flow. In the Indoor Athletics Championships 1998 in Valencia, he finished sixth on the 60m hurdles.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he reached the semifinals, but came there with 13.62 s seventh no further. In 2001, he succeeded in winning the gold medal at the European Cup in Bremen. A few weeks later, he finished at the World Championships in Edmonton in the final with 13.52 s sixth place.

In 2002, he came at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna 60m hurdles to third place, but was later disqualified because he had tested positive for the substance norandrosterone ( a metabolite of the anabolic steroid nandrolone ) in a recent carried out doping control, and because of this breach of the doping regulations for two years locked.

Petschonkins last major competition was the participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In the quarterfinals, he ran the distance in 13.53 seconds and missed almost the fifth place in the next round.

Bobs

2005 moved Petschonkin as Bobanschieber in winter sports, for which he increased his competition weight of 85 to 104 kg. His first and only podium finish he succeeded in the World Cup season 2007/2008 when he d' Ampezzo finished in second place with the four-man Russian pilot Alexander Zubkov at the fourth race in Cortina.
