Fabian Müller (composer)

Fabian Müller ( * 1964 in Zurich ) is a Swiss composer.

Life

He studied cello with Claude Starck and composition with Josef Haselbach at the Zurich Conservatory. After graduation, he took four years at the summer courses of the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado in part. There he studied composition with Jacob Druckman, Bernard Rands, and George Tsontakis.

Was promoted significantly Fabian Müller by David Zinman, who has recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London 2002, a portrait CD. Another shot with Chamber Music for Strings was released in 2004 with the Petersen Quartet. Fabian Müller's works are internationally played by major orchestras and ensembles. Commissioned works he wrote for the Lucerne Festival, the Interlaken Music Festival or the Vestfold Festspillene in Norway and his works were performed at the festival La Chaise Dieux in France, at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado or at the Festival Internacional de Ushuaia in Argentina.

In addition to his activities as a composer Fabian Müller mainly interested in ethnomusicology. For ten years ( 1991-2002 ) he worked on the publication of Hanny Christen collection, a ten-volume Swiss folk music anthology with over 10 ` 000 melodies from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Current works

His recent works include the Cello Sonata No. 2, and Dialogues Cellestes, a double concerto for two cellos and orchestra. Both works were commissioned by the cellist Antonio Meneses and were premiered by him. Among the works of recent years include four string quartets, and the Concerto per clover for solo cello and chamber orchestra (premiered in 2007 by Steven Isserlis ) and the Concerto for Orchestra ( world premiere: Austro- Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor: Christopher Hogwood ). The symphonic work Taranis was unveiled in 2009 by the Bern Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrey Boreyko on a tour of Germany.
