The Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (abbreviated FADEA, Spanish Argentine aircraft factory ), Fábrica Militar de Aviones to 2009 (short FMA, Spanish military aircraft factory ) is an Argentine manufacturer of aircraft based in Córdoba. Until its sale on April 1, 1995, the company was owned by the Argentine state, after which it belonged until 2008 Lockheed Martin and operated under Lockheed Martin Aircraft Argentina SA. Since March 2009 it belongs again to the Argentine government.

History

The company was founded on 10 October 1927, subordinated to the Ministry of War. The initial objective was to produce the Avro 504 and foreign aircraft engines under license. 1932 began with the production of the first own types of Ae.C.1, a three- seater touring aircraft. 1933 originated with the Ae.T.1 the first passenger aircraft to be built in Argentina. Man made ​​in the license Curtiss Hawk Model 75 and the Focke -Wulf Fw 44, and also acquired the manufacturing rights for the production of Siemens Sh 14 and the Wright R- 1820. 1944, the company part of Instituto Aerotecnico and accordingly was renamed. The check was handed over to the newly established aviation secretariat. In the 1950s, the first South American fighter aircraft in the FMA with a swept wing, the I.Ae. 33 Pulqui II manufactured. On March 28, 1952, was part of Industrias y Aeronáuticas Mecánicas del Estado ( IAME ). However, due to the continued Peronism it came to ongoing economic difficulties in Argentina. The company discontinued the development of aviation and began the production of motor vehicles. On July 1, 1956, the original company name was adopted again as a new state-owned company first. In 1957, the company producing the part of the Direccion National de Investigaciones Fabricaciones e Aeronautica, short DINFIA was employed and at times over 9500 employees. 1965 closed one a licensing agreement for five years in order to produce the Cessna 182 can, which was later extended. In 1968 the company was called Fábrica Militar de Aviones again and became part of the Aero de Cordoba material (AMC ). It later joined the licensed production of the Cessna 188 and Cessna 152. In the 1970s, the production of the FMA IA 58 Pucara was recorded. The last developed aircraft is the FMA IA 63 Pampa.

In April 1992, the company was converted into a public limited company in which the Argentine government was initially a 30% stake. On 1 April 1995 Lockheed Martin took over the control of the company. 2004, employs about 900 people.

2008 was announced by the government Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the re-nationalization, which was officially completed on 17 March 2009. According to press information, the company should specialize in two new product lines after this realignment on light passenger and multipurpose aircraft. In August 2010 the company announced the first new development in the IA -73 training aircraft, whose development is to be completed by the year 2013.
