Fains

Fain is a commune with 405 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the community association Portes de l'Eure.

Geography

Fain is located 13 kilometers south-west of Vernon between Gadencourt in the south and Pacy -sur -Eure in the north on the N13 at the western end of the department of Eure. The river Eure and the Bach Le Bras du Fain flow through the municipality, on which also include several ponds. The hamlet of La Noë du Bois, La Gènevraie, La Cave à - Renoult, Les Closets and Le Moulin belong to the community.

History

Nègre assumes that the homonymous municipality Fain (Meuse ) is named after a term from the Langues d' oïl. Fain there means " marshy bog " or " muddy field ". Le Prévost assumes that the village name Fain (Eure), just like the place names Feings, Feins, and Les Fins Fins, fines from the Latin word ( " region " or "Country" ) was born. Fain in Eure has located at a border area that has been marked by the Eure, while the place name Fain has emerged in Meuse different.

In the register of fiefs the time of Philip II of France (1165-1223) Fain is mentioned as a fief from Pacy -sur -Eure. The inhabitants of Fain had certain rights with respect to the Forest of Merey. Owners of Fain was a seigneur. The Abbey in La Croix -Saint- Leufroy had land in Fain.

Attractions

The Romanesque church of Saint -Pierre was rebuilt in the 16th century. It has since been restored several times. In the church there is a lectern from the 16th century and a statue of the Virgin and Child, 1907 as historiques Monuments ( historical monument ) were classified. A bell, which bears the date 1553, was classified in 1994 as a monument historique. There are also in the church still remains the Litre funéraire with three coats of arms. It is the coat of arms of Barthelemy you Chesne, Écuyer ( attested 1666), and his wife Catherine Marie Gabrielle de la Vallée des Lettiers from the end of the 17th century.

A former mill was later converted for production of chocolate ( chocolate factory Moreuil ) and now serves as a residence.

The municipal area protected geographical indication ( PGI ) for Pork ( Porc de Normandie), poultry ( Volailles de Normandie) and cider ( Cidre de Normandie and cider normand ) apply.
