Faisal Bin Shamlan

Faisal bin Shamlan (Arabic فيصل بن شملان, DMG Faisal b Samlan; . * 1934, † 1 January 2010 Aden) was a Yemeni politician.

Biography

Shamlan took originally a several influential positions in the administration of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and was appointed from that in 1994 minister of oil and minerals in his cabinet.

In 2006 he was joint candidate of the opposition United Meeting Parties ( Joint Meeting Parties ) in the presidential election and reached there 21.8 percent of the vote, but lost the Incumbent Salih clearly, who scored 77.2 percent of the vote.

He suffered recently from a brain tumor and returned after several months of hospital and surgical stays in India and the UK only ten days before his death in Yemen back. The funeral ceremony in Aden, several thousand people participated under the direction of leaders of the United Assembly of Parties.
