The Qal ʿ at ibn Ma ʿ n (Arabic قلعة ابن معن ), also Qal ʿ at Fakhr ad - Din al - Ma ʿ nī ( قلعة فخر الدين المعني ), Qal ʿ at Tadmor ( قلعة تدمر ) or Qasr Ibn Ma ʿ n ( قصر ابن معن ) called, a well-preserved fortress near the ancient ruined city of Palmyra (now Tadmor ) in the Syrian province of Homs.

History

The fort was probably built in the Mamluk period ( 1250-1517 ). Other research speak of Ayyubid predecessor of about 1230. Lebanese Druze emir Fakhr ad-Din II (r. 1585-1633 ) expanded his principality of Ma ʿ n Dynasty ( hence the name), to the east of the castle Schmemis up here and built it to a castle-like residence. He tried to extend his domain at the expense of the Ottomans. However, this effort was not successful: He was persecuted by the Turks, captured and executed in 1635 in Constantinople Opel.

Visit

The tour of the fort is any day. It is located about two kilometers north of the present town of Tadmor. A road runs along the north side of the mountain directly up to the castle entrance.
