Falbygden

Falbygden is a cultural landscape between Lake Vänern and Vättern in western Sweden. It is located around the central mesas Västergötland (the " Falan " ) and includes, in a triangle of 50 × 50 × 30 km up the largest part of the territory of the municipality Falköping and parts of the municipalities Tidaholm, Skövde and Skara.

Numerous residential places and tombs of the Stone Age make the Falbygden one of the most distinctive Neolithic culture areas in Europe (eg B.Großsteingräber Vårkumla 1 and 2). Approximately 270 passage graves (three- quarters of all Swedish megalithic tombs ) from the period around 3000 BC, and grave mounds, standing stones and stone circles indicate the early settlement by an agricultural society. Pollen analyzes confirm the picture of a continuous agricultural use to the present day.
