Farhad Daftary

Farhad Daftary ( * 1938; persian فرهاد دفترى / Farhad Daftari ) is a specialist on the Islamic Religious Community of Ismailitentums Islamic scholar.

Daftary received his Ph.D. 1971 at the University of California, Berkeley. He is Deputy Director and Head of the Department of Academic Research and Publications of the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London.

He is the author of an important history of Ismailitentums, the work The Isma'ilis: their history and doctrines. In German its basic introduction appeared Brief History of the Ismailis. His books have been translated into Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu, Gujarati and in several European languages ​​.

He is a consulting editor of Encyclopaedia Iranica, co-editor ( with Wilferd Madelung ) of Encyclopaedia Islamica (s) and editor in chief of the book series Ismaili Heritage Series and the Ismaili Texts and Translations Series.
