Faugères AOC

The vineyard is located in north- eastern Faugères neighborhood the appellation Saint- Chinian in the Languedoc wine region. The vineyards cover approximately 2,000 hectares in the seven churches Autignac, Cabrerolles, Caussiniojouls, Faugères, Fos, Laurens and Roquessels in Hérault. The area is located within the city triangle of Béziers - Bédarieux - Pezenas. The community Faugères gave the area its name. The appellation has since May 5, 1982 to the red wine over the status of an Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ). In 2006, the first white wine with the status of the AOC was marketed. Two wine cooperatives as well as 41 self- marketers share the market of about 80,000 hectoliters of wine annually.

The vineyards are located at an average altitude of 250 m above sea level. NN in strong slopes of the Montagne Noire, in a broad sense is geologically foothills of the Cevennes. The vineyards are often terraced. More than 80 % of the soils are a geological formation named " Monts de Faugères " from the era of the Mississippian assign ( 359.2 to 318.1 mya ). Varieties

Red wine and rosé wine made ​​from Carignan (share up to 40 %), Cinsault (maximum 20 %), Grenache and / or Lledoner Pelut ( 20%) of Mourvèdre (minimum 5 %) and Syrah (minimum 15% ).

White wine is made from the main varieties Grenache Blanc (share up to 70 %), Marsanne (maximum 70 %), Roussanne (30 to 70%) and Vermentino ( maximum of 70 % Vermentino is also called role ) were prepared.
