FC Unirea Urziceni

Unirea Urziceni FC Valahorum was a Romanian football club from Urziceni town. He played from 2006 to 2011 in the Romanian League 1 and 2009 was Romanian Champion, 2010 runner-up and participants in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2009/10. The club was disbanded in 2011.

History

The first football club in Urziceni was a club called " Ialomiţa ". This team initially played against clubs from Ploieşti, Buzău and Slobozia. Even against resident German played the team frequently.

First significant appearance in the club came in 1988 when the crew of the catchment succeeded in the last sixteen of the Romanian Cup. In the 1988/89 season Unirea reached the second place in the third Romanian League, but could not win against Dunărea Calarasi in the decider. In 2002, finally, the club was taken over by the new principal sponsor " Valahorum ," the newly restructured the club. Even after half a year, the new sponsor decided to expand the stadium to 7,000 seats. Just a year after the arrival of the new sponsor, the team rose to the second league; in the season 2005/ 06 was followed by promotion to the first division. They succeeded Valahorum, from a club that had spent almost 50 years in amateur leagues to make a Romanian first division within four years. On 26 September 2006 Dan Petrescu took Unirea as successor to the sacked Costel Orac under contract.

In the 2007 /08 season Urziceni reached fifth place in the first Romanian football league and qualified for the UEFA Cup. In their first game at the international level, the team played for Hamburger SV 0-0 draw. Due to a 0-2 home defeat in the return leg Unirea missed a place in the group stage.

Since September 2008, the club had a new main sponsor with Alexandros engine. In the 2008 /09 season he celebrated his biggest success by winning the Romanian championship. This was associated with the direct qualification for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2009/10. There Unirea met the VfB Stuttgart, Sevilla FC and Glasgow Rangers. Despite two wins ( against Sevilla at home and abroad in Glasgow ) gave it only for third place, which, however, the qualification for the Round of the Champions League allowed, however, where the team was eliminated against Liverpool. 29 December 2009, Dan Petrescu resigned as coach and was replaced by the Israeli Ronny Levy, who signed a contract for one and a half years on December 31, 2009. Already in mid-August 2010, the club parted but by Levy and after a three -week bridging time under Gabriel Caramarin was presented Octavian Grigore, the former coach of third division Chimia Brazi as a successor on September 8, 2010.

In order to reduce personnel costs, the club patron Dumitru Bucşaru sold in the fall of 2010, most service providers and replaced it with Players out on loan from Bucharest second division. After the Romanian Football Federation had prohibited the proposed merger with Chiajna already in February 2011, Unirea was reported in the 2011/2012 season for no championship and the club disbanded in the summer of 2011.
