2009–10 UEFA Champions League

The UEFA Champions League 2009/10 was the 18th season of the most important European competition for club teams in football under this name and the 55th overall. The competition took 76 clubs participate from 52 state associations. Only the Liechtenstein Football Association did not provide a representative.

The season began with the first qualifying round on 30 June 2009 and ended with the final at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid on May 22, 2010 for the first time on a Saturday. There, Inter Milan beat Bayern Munich 2-0 and won after 1964 and 1965 for the third time the competition.

Scorer of the competition was as last season the Argentine Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona with eight goals.

Qualification

In the draws the teams according to their club coefficient based equally in set (stronger ) and unseeded (weaker ) teams were divided and drawn against each other.

First qualifying round

The first legs took place on 30 June and 1 July, the return legs on 7/8 July.

Second qualifying round

The first legs took place on 14-15. July, the return matches a week later at 21-22. July 2009 instead.

Third qualifying round

From the third qualifying round, there were two separate Lostöpfe: national champions will be drawn only against other national champions, while " Followers ", ie second, third or fourth-placed clubs were drawn only against other " followers ".

Underdog teams alternated in the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League 2009/10.

It was played on 28-29. July ( first leg ) and 4/5 August ( return legs ).

Play-offs

The final round was called for better marketing opportunities " play-off ". Also in the play-offs, "Master " and " Followers " were drawn separately. From this round, all games were centrally marketed by UEFA to generate greater media attention and thus increase advertising revenue.

Underdog teams alternated in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League 2009/10.

The first legs were on 18-19. August, the return matches on 25-26. August 2009.

Group stage

The two first place winners of each group qualified for the knockout stages, the group changed the Third Round of the UEFA Europa League 2009/10. Case of a tie between two or more teams after the group matches, the ranking was determined by the following criteria:

Second round

The group winners met the runners, the latter had first venue. For the purpose of better marketing with less concurrent encounters the second round was pulled apart. The total of 16 games have now been distributed to four weeks, played on eight games each with two games, instead of as before in two weeks to four games with four games.

The first legs were on 16, 17, 23 and 24 February, 2010, at the return legs on March 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th 2010.

Quarterfinals

The first legs took place on 30-31. March and the return matches on 6/7 Of April 2010.

Semifinal

The first legs took place on 20-21. April and the return matches on 27-28. Of April 2010.

Final

The final was first held on a Saturday. Inter Milan won the final 2-0 against Bayern Munich. For Inter it was the third win of the highest European title at the fifth finals. The Bavarians were the eighth time in the final ( four items). The win Inter, Italy remained in the five-year summary of the UEFA almost in third place ahead of Germany and presented so that for the time being still three solid starters and a qualifier for the UEFA Champions League. With the final victory Inter Milan also succeeded together with the national championship and the Cup victory of winning the triples. Bayern would be the same managed a victory.
