Time as United FC Winterthur - Veltheim (1915-1928)

In August 1914 the First World War broke out, which due to the mobilization of the Winterthur football players were drafted into the army and only a brief game heritage status was available for only belatedly beginning Cup. As a countermeasure, they made ready with the only fresh ascended into the NLA Club FC Winterthur Quartier Veltheim and put in all series, joint teams. As a result of this collaboration took place on August 30, 1915 the merger ( in 1912 there were already Fusionsverhandlugen, which were, however, failed twice at the general meeting of FC Veltheims ) and renaming the club for United FC Winterthur - Veltheim. After you had any success yet in union season, it managed in the season 1915/16 for the first time to move into the final round, but when you had to leave the preference in the battle for the championship title Cantonal Neuchâtel. In 1916, the team was able to prevail in the final round against FC La Chaux- de-Fonds and YB and thus won the third championship in 1917. 1918 ended one the East group in midfield and could not therefore fight for the championship title. In 1928, the renamed FC Winterthur was also reproduced in the statutes.

Less successful meantime (1928-1967)

A year after the official renaming in FC Winterthur came as a result of the merger with the Winterthur sports club ( a club that is two years previously created by the merger of the old FC Oberwinterthur and old FC Tössfeld ) in 1927 to a renewed renamed United Football Club Winterthur, the officially until the 50th year anniversary in 1946 had validity. However, the FCW took all the time under the name FC Winterthur part in the championship. Also for the first time took 1928/29, a boys team of FCW to the official Junior Championships of SFAV part. 1931 1st team rose in the wake of the Swiss League reform and the associated reduction League 1931 in the 2nd league ( the then second highest league ), which was renamed a season later in first league. 1934/35 was followed by a descent into the third highest league, then the association succeeded in the immediate promotion back to the second highest league. 1939, the club was relegated again in the Serie A, this times the name of the third-highest league from. There they remained for a time, with the name changed in 1943 1 League in the wake of the introduction of the National League. It was not until 11 years after the descent into the third highest league, the club managed under player coach Sepp Zurich 1950 's re-emergence in the National League B. Again, six years later, in 1956, the team was represented in the top division. In 1956 the club after a quarter century for the first time again the rise in the NLA. The next year, there will be a reorganization of the association and an associated separation of the tennis department, henceforth called tennis club FC Winterthur. The relationship with the mother club was still regulated by the end of 1973 the contract, then broke the contract on the FCW and the tennis club a year later was renamed TC Schützenwiese. The team was able to hold up to 1958 in the NLA, then get on it in the second highest league after one season. 1959 resulted in a good 6th place in the highest class 14er league, but increased in the following season again. 1966/67, the club was able to participate once more for a season at the NLA, but increased the same again.

The last glorious time of the FCW (1967-1977)

In the 1967/68 season the team managed under coach René Hüssy and with star player Timo Konietzka not only the direct re-emergence, but also the first time reached the Swiss Cup finals, the team lost 1:2 against FC Lugano. Thus began the last glorious era of the club. The 1968/69 season they finished in 11th place from which 8th place 1969/70 was set and the club was allowed for the first time at the International Football Cup ( IFC), also known as " Summer Cup " to participate. 1971 resulted in a 6th place. In the 1971/72 season it was enough again for the 6th Place and the club managed to push into the League Cup final, where they lost against FC Basel 1:4. In the years 1972-1975, the club took each part of the IFC, for a UEFA Cup qualification but it was never enough. The 1972/73 season joined the FCW again into Ligacup - Final before and lost the game on penalties with 2:2 ( 4:5 nP ) against Grasshopper Club Zurich. In the season 1973 /74 FCW achieved with the 4th place his best result at this stage, level on points with third-placed and removed a point from the runner-up. After this season's performance in the championship took off again in 1975 resulted in an 8th place in 1976 achieved a placement in eleventh place. However, the team was able to advance in 1976 for the second time in the club's history in the cup final. The team was defeated after extra time 1:2 against FC Basel. In the 1976/77 season the league was finally reduced to 12 teams and the FCW rose as the last in the NLB from - thus also the final glorious decade of FCW was over.

Permanent guest in the NLB (1977 -present)

After descending into the center hole of the FCW was represented with a few exceptions in the second highest league. 1982/83 and 1984/85 the team played another two times for a season in the NLA, both times could not stay there. In the 1998/99 season, FC Winterthur rose from the third league level (1st League ) and won immediate promotion back to the second highest league. During the winter break in 2001 it finally came, in a phase in which the FCW established itself in the second division on the front table seats, the financial scandal. There were debts of 2.5 million Swiss francs known, the training moved to start Auf-/Abstiegsrunde by one week, halved player salaries and led a restructuring program in the way. During this period, the club was in danger of going bankrupt and a forced relegation, possibly until the 5th league. In April 2002, down from 1.2 million in debt were determined by restructuring judge. In May 2002, the newly elected President in September 2001 Hannes W. Keller made a bank guarantee for 1.5 million francs. This bank guarantee he later increased to 1.8 million Swiss francs, which the FC Winterthur NLB license for the coming season was granted. Thus, the FCW was in contrast to other traditional club like FC Lugano who went bankrupt complete, or avert Lausanne Sports and Servette Geneva, both of which were graded in the amateur league, worse by the club. In the following season, 2002/03 FCW was due to continuing precarious situation in the NLB, because there were no losers in this season due to a league expansion. In the season 2005/ 06 made it to the FC Winterthur in the Cup semi-final. By a 0-1 defeat against FC Sion followed the resignation of the competition. It gave to the quarter-finals in Geneva for the first time in 31 years back an extra turn. In 2008, the professional operation in accordance with the rules of the Football Association was transferred to a newly formed corporation. In the 2011/2012 season the club reached the semi-final of the Swiss Cup again and retired there against FC Basel 1:2 from after before the Brühl St. Gallen, FC St. Gallen (both ChL ) and BSC Young Boys ( ASL) was eliminated.
