FCM Baia Mare

FC Baia Mare was a Romanian football club based in Baia Mare. The greatest success of the club's history was its participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1982/83 with a draw against Real Madrid.

History

FC Baia Mare was founded in 1923 as Phoenix Baia Mare. By 1934, the club played in regional leagues before he joined the newly founded Divizia B was 1934. After two failures in the relegation for the promotion to the Divizia A, the association succeeded in 1937 made ​​it into the highest Romanian league. Phoenix was able to place himself right away in midfield and in 1938 changed its name to FC carpati Baia Mare. This change, however, was in 1940 reversed. In the same year Baia Mare fell through the Second Vienna Award of Hungary. This Phoenix played from 1941 to 1945 in the second Hungarian league.

After the Second World War, Baia Mare came back to Romania and Phoenix took the game operation in 1947 in the Divizia B on. In 1948, the Communist government of Romania in Baia Mare a new club called CSM Baia Mare, however, the same players and the same club management had like Phoenix Baia Mare and also played in the same stadium. Phoenix Baia Mare was thereupon be dissolved. In 1950 the club name was changed again and the team played from now on as Metalul Baia Mare. In 1955, the descent into the Divizia C. In 1963, the first player of the club was elected to the Romanian national team with Mircea Sasu. In 1964 managed to return to the Divizia A, but had to leave the club at the end of the season 1964/65 again.

The golden era of the club began in 1975 with the renaming in FC Baia Mare. 1978 FC rose to the Divizia A and immediately reached the 5th place. A year later, in the 1979/80 season, the best finish in club history was reached with the 4th Place. However, the FC Baia Mare rose a year later in the Divizia B from. In 1982, the club again reached the Romanian Cup final and was defeated there again Dinamo Bucharest. Since Dinamo in the 1981/82 season also won the championship, FC Baia Mare took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup. In the first round the team against Real Madrid was eliminated. In 1998, the club name was changed to its present name FC Baia Mare.
