Francisc Zavoda

Francisc " Feri" Zavoda ( born April 14, 1927 in Rodna Veche ) is a former Romanian football player and coach. He played 190 games in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A.

Career

Career as a player

Zavoda began playing football at Phoenix Baia Mare, where he aufrückte into the first team in 1947, which was the second highest in the Romanian league, the Divizia B, active at the time. After he had missed with Phoenix at the end of season promotion to the Divizia A scarce, he moved to the capital to CFR Bucharest (later Rapid Bucharest). On August 21, 1948, he made ​​his debut in Divizia A, where he immediately scored a goal. With CFR, he managed in the season 1948/49, the runner-up behind ICO Oradea.

Before the start of season 1950 Zavoda CCA Bucharest joined (later Steaua Bucharest). Francisc Zavoda played eight games for the Romanian national football team, but not score. He made his debut on May 20, 1951 against Czechoslovakia. At the 1952 Olympics Zavoda belonged to the Romanian squad, but was used by coach Gheorghe Popescu in any single game.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Zavoda worked from 1962 to 1963 as coach of the junior national team and from 1964 to 1966 as assistant coach under Ilie Savu at Steaua Bucharest. 1969 graduated from the Military Technical Academy Bucharest Zavoda and devoted himself to other business interests. Add as coach, he returned only sporadically back: in the 1979/80 season and for the last match day of the 1985/86 season he was head coach at AS Armata Tirgu Mures, 1983, he supervised Progresul Brăila.

Francisc Zavoda is the older brother of Vasile Zavoda, with whom he played for nine years together at CCA Bucharest and with whom he was in his six matches together on the court. To distinguish him from his brother, he was led into the Romanian sports press as I Zavoda. Zavoda lives in Baia Mare and was still living in 2008 as the oldest Romanian national team.
