Feigères

Feigères is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Feigères is located on 560 m above sea level. M., 10 km south-southwest of the City of Geneva (air line). The village extends slightly increased at the southern edge of the lake basin, in Genevois, at the northern foot of Mount Sion and northwest of the Salève, near the border with Switzerland.

History

The territory of Feigères was already inhabited in Roman times. The name evolved in the Middle Ages of Felgeriac and Felgeriacum about Faygères to Feygères. It goes back to the Latin word filix ( bracken ). Feigères belonged until 1401 to the Counts of Geneva; then it came to Savoy and shared his fate. A field change has occurred in 1924, when the hamlet Cervonnex was spun off from Feigères and assigned to Saint -Julien -en- Genevois.
