Félix Faure

Félix Faure ( born January 30, 1841 in Paris, † February 16, 1899 ) was a moderate Republican French politician. From 1895 until his death in 1899 he was the 7th President of France.

Faure came from a modest, brought it as owner of the trading company Felix Faure & Co. in Le Havre, however, to considerable wealth. On August 21, 1881 he was elected to the National Assembly. Later he was responsible for the Colonies and the Navy in the State Department, before he then in 1894 for one year Secretary of the Navy was.

Faure died in the arms of his mistress Marguerite Steinheil from a stroke, which was allegedly caused by a too high dose aphrodisiac.

A Lycée in Beauvais today bears his name.
