Felix Maria von Exner - Ewarten ( born August 23, 1876 in Vienna, † February 7, 1930 ) was an Austrian meteorologist and geophysicist. As a university professor in Innsbruck and Vienna, and longtime director of the Central Institute of Geodynamics, he was an important theorist of the three subject areas.

Life

He was the son of Sigmund Exner and Emilie Exner, born of Winiwarther. Exner Ewarten started in 1895 to study physics. In 1904 he was appointed lecturer at the University of Vienna, also in 1904 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina. In 1910 he received a university professor of Cosmic Physics in Innsbruck, 1917, he was appointed director of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics in Vienna and University Professor of Physics of the Earth. He held until his death in 1930 this position.

The focus of his research was the dynamic meteorology and the application of mechanics to geographic phenomena. Exner Ewarten considered a great theorist in the field of geophysics, geodynamics and meteorology.

In 1912 he wrote the article Dynamic Meteorology ( with W. Trabert ) in the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences.

His son Christof Exner (1915-2007) was professor of geology in Vienna.
