Fernando Sabogal Viana

Fernando Sabogal Viana ( born May 28, 1941 in Mariquita, Colombia, † December 1, 2013 in Bogotá ) was Auxiliary Bishop of Bogotá.

Life

Fernando Sabogal Viana first attended the Little Seminary in Zipaquirá and studied theology and philosophy at the Seminary of Bogotá. He received on 22 January 1967 the Bishop of Zipaquirá, Buenaventura Jáuregui Prieto, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and was active in the Diocese of Zipaquirá. He was vicar in Villapinzón (1967 ), Head of the Vicariate of Santa Rosa de Ubalá (1968), vicar and administrator of Carmen de Carupa ( 1969-1971 ), pastor of Junin (1972 -1976 ) and Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral and Family ( 1977-1983 ). In 1985 he earned a degree in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was a professor at the seminary of his diocese, and shortly thereafter worked in the Permanent Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference, where he served as Director of the Department of the laity, and as Deputy Secretary General.

On 8 March 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Muteci and auxiliary bishop in Bogotá. The Archbishop of Bogota, Pedro Rubiano Sáenz, donated to him on 13 April of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Archbishop Paolo Romeo, and the secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone SDB Curia. He was also vicar general of the Archdiocese of Bogotá.
