Ferrocarril Central Andino

The Ferrocarril Central Andino SA ( FCCA ), German Peruvian Central Railway, is a Peruvian company that operates the railway from Lima in Peru's Andean highlands. The 591 km long rail network has endpoints at the sites of Cerro de Pasco, Huancayo, La Oroya and Callao on the coast.

The line to Huancayo was built in the 1880s by the American Henry Meiggs and was until 2005 the highest standard gauge railway in the world with a vertex at 4781 m above sea level at La Galera.

The railway line between Lima and Huancayo was decommissioned by 2002, several years. Since 2003, however, she is currently twice a month from April to November, traveled by a tourist train. In addition, daily run many trains with ores from the many mines in the region.

In June 2006, the government of Peru agreed to a plan of the concession holder of the route, the Railroad Development Corporation (RDC) to widen the track width of the Huancayo - Huancavelica line of 914 mm to 1,435 mm. Construction will take an estimated 16 months and cost 33 million U.S. $. This project is funded jointly by the government and the Andean Development Corporation.

RDC has proposed to drill a 21 km long, 400 million U.S. $ expensive tunnel through the Andes to shorten the travel time to the currently 332 km long route Lima - Huancayo to four hours.
