Fethi Missaoui

Fathi Missaoui, also Fethi Missaoui and Fathi Al- Missaoui (Arabic فتحي الميساوي, DMG Fathi al - Mīsāwī; born 8 January 1974) is a former boxer from Tunisia. He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1996 in the light welterweight and thus became only the third Olympic medal winner of the Tunisian sports history.

Boxing career

He already won the silver medal in 1994 in the light welterweight at the 41st World Military Championships in Tunisia. He defeated it only in the final against the Germans Oktay Urkal. In May 1996 he won the African Olympic qualification with a final victory against the Olympic champion Hocine Soltani. Then he took in August 1996 part in the 26th Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he won a bronze medal in the light welterweight. He defeated Lee doing Trautsch from Australia ( 25:9 ), Francis Barrett from Ireland ( 18:6 ) and Mohamed Allalou from Algeria ( 16:15 ) before he only lost in the semifinals again against Oktay Urkal ( 6:20 ) and thus reached # 3.

In February 1997, he won the Strandja Tournament in Bulgaria, including with a victory against the world champion and Olympic champion Oleg Saitow. In September 1997, he was also able to choose the third game of the Francophonie in Madagascar itself.

In 1998 he was in Canada a pro, winning each of his twelve fights, seven by knockout. On 3 November 2000, he won the North American championship of the WBO light middleweight. He overcame this to southpaw Andrew Murray, former world title challenger by the WBA, by unanimous decision. After another points victory in October 2001 against Johnny Rivera from Puerto Rico, he was forced to resign due to an eye injury from active boxing.
