FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

The FIFA U- 17 Women's World Cup (English: FIFA U -17 Women's World Cup), the competition for the best U-17 national teams in the world. The tournament is organized by the world governing body FIFA and was held for the first time in 2008. Was hosted by New Zealand at that time. The next tournament will take place in 2014 in Costa Rica instead. The U- 17 World Cup is held every two years in even-numbered years, while the competitions in the junior men will be held in odd-numbered years. Reigning world champion France.

History

Following the positive development of the first U-19 World Cup Women, which was held in Canada in 2002, FIFA wanted to introduce a second Junior World tournament. Because of that age limitations, the continental federations spoke out against this proposal. To solve the problem, the FIFA U -17 and U-20 World Cup and the women resembled thus created to the age limits to which the competitions for the junior men. The age limit for the U-19 competition was thus increased to 20 and has been for the discharged in Russia in 2006 tournament for the first time effective.

Awards

At the end of each U-17 Women's World Cup several awards will be awarded to the best players and the fairest team. Currently there are four different awards:

  • The Adidas Golden Ball for the best player
  • The Adidas Golden Shoe for top scorer
  • The Adidas Golden Glove for best goalkeeper
  • The FIFA Fair Play Award for the fairest team
