Finnish motorcycle Grand Prix

The Grand Prix of Finland for motorcycles was a motorcycle race, which was held 36 times 1932-1982 and 1962-1980 21 times belonged to the motorcycle world championship.

History

The first official Grand Prix of Finland was held in 1932 in Helsinki. The winners then were the Swedish Husqvarna pilots Ragnar Sunnqvist and Gunnar Kalén. In 1948, the first post-war Grand Prix in Helsinki took place. In the following years the race won international importance as, successful foreign pilots as Ernst Hiller, Ken Kavanagh and Tom Phillis wore one in the winners' list. 1961, the Grand Prix was first held on the Pyynikki racetrack in Tampere. The following year, the Grand Prix of Finland for the first time awarded world championship status. From 1964 to 1982, the race was held in Imatra, since it is no longer on the calendar.
