Finnish national road 4

The Finnish national road 4 (Finnish Valtatie 4, schwed. Riksväg 4) leads from the capital Helsinki in southern Finland towards the north to Utsjoki to the Norwegian border. With a length of 1295 km it is the longest state road. In addition to the state highways 5 and 8, it is one of the most important north -south connections in the country.

Route

The state road 4 begins in Helsinki district Vanhakaupunki and leads northwards throughout Finland Lahti, Jyväskylä, Oulu, Kemi and Rovaniemi to Utsjoki, where it ends at the border to Norway. The European Route 75 follows the whole course of the route of State Road 4 sections between Helsinki and Lusi at Heinola, Vaajakoski and Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä and Kirri, Liminka and Haukipudas and Kemi and Keminmaa is the state road 4 expanded as a motorway.

The state road 4 performs the following municipalities: Helsinki - Vantaa - Kerava - Järvenpää - Mäntsälä - ( Orimattila ) - Lahti - ( Nastola ) - Heinola - ( Sysmä ) - Hartola - Joutsa - Toivakka - Jyväskylä - ( Laukaa ) - Äänekoski - Viitasaari - Pihtipudas - Pyhajarvi - Kärsämäki - Siikalatva - ( Liminka ) - Tyrnävä - Liminka ( again ) - Kempele - Oulu - Haukipudas - Ii - Simo - Kemi - Keminmaa - Tervola - Rovaniemi - Sodankylä - Inari - Utsjoki.
