Firestone 600

The Firestone 550 is an automobile race in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. It is since 1997 in the racing calendar of the IndyCar Series (formerly the Indy Racing League). It is held annually in June at Texas Motor Speedway.

With the Firestone Firehawk 600 (CART ) and the Chevy 500 ( IndyCar Series), there were two more races in the highest category in American Championship Car Racing at Texas Motor Speedway.

History

The True Value 500 1997 the first Texas race was in American Championship Car Racing in 1979. The race ended with a rating error in history. Billy Boat took the checkered flag as the winner. However, there was a technical problem with the timing, so Arie Luyendyk, who actually was in the lead, was not deemed the winner. Luyendyk doubted the official timekeeping and it came in the Victory Lane to blows between Luyendyk and AJ Foyt, the team manager of Boat. A day later confirmed the USAC that there was a rating error and Luyendyk was declared the winner.

The race was renamed several times in the coming years.

2011 was led by the Firestone Twin 275s once by an event with two consecutive races. The race distance and the championship points for each run was cut in half. The starting grid for the first race was determined by a qualifying for the second race of the lot decided on the starting positions. Several drivers have criticized this method in no uncertain terms.

More ACCR race at the Texas Motor Speedway

From 1998 to 2004 there was with the Chevy 500 another race of the IndyCar Series at Texas Motor Speedway. This was traditionally held in the fall. In addition, would also have a race in the CART series to be held on this track with the Firestone Firehawk 600 2001. The race has not started because almost all pilots had complained of dizziness after training due to the high g - forces.
