First German Bundestag

The first German Bundestag was between 7 September 1949 and 6 October 1953. Overall, the first German Bundestag met in 282 sessions, with the last meeting held on 29 July 1953. The first parliament was constituted by the federal election in 1949, which took place on 14 August 1949.

On September 15, 1949, the first Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer elected with 202 votes in favor, 142 against, 44 abstentions and one invalid vote in the first ballot to the Chancellor.

The first Bundestag had at the beginning of 402 ( 8 Berlin Member of Parliament ) and at the end of the legislative period a total of 401 ( 19 ) deputies. The highest seat share had the CDU / CSU with 139 ( 2) seats ( end: 150), after which the SPD with 131 ( 5) seats ( end: 139) followed. Erich Köhler was at the first meeting with 346 votes in favor, 41 abstentions and elected to the Bundestag president. After his resignation on October 18, 1950 Hermann Ehlers was elected his successor on 19 October 1950.
