Second German Bundestag

The 2nd German Bundestag existed between the 6th of October 1953, 15 October 1957. Overall, the second German Bundestag met in 227 sessions, with the last meeting held on August 29, 1957. The second parliament was constituted by the parliamentary elections in 1953, which took place on 6 September 1953.

On October 9, 1953, the second Bundestag Konrad Adenauer elected with 305 ( 11) votes in favor, 148 ( 11) against, 14 abstentions in the first round of voting for Chancellor.

The Bundestag had 2 at the beginning and at the end of the legislative period a total of 497 deputies ( 22 Berlin Bundestag deputies). The highest seat share had the CDU / CSU with 243 ( 6) seats ( end of 261 ), followed by the SPD with 151 ( 11) seats ( end: 164) followed. In addition, in the second Bundestag were the FDP ( 48 5 seats at the end of 39 seats), the GB / BHE (27 seats at the end of 19 seats), the DP ( 15 seats at the end of 34 seats) and center ( 3 seats at the end of 2 seats) represented.

Presidium of the Bundestag

Hermann Ehlers was elected President of the Bundestag again in the first session with 466 votes in favor, 30 abstentions and four invalid votes. He died on October 29, 1954 from the effects of Mandelvereiterung. On November 16, 1954 Eugen Gerstenmaier was elected in the third ballot as his successor.
