FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 1973

The second ski flying World Championships was held from 8 to March 10, 1973 in Oberstdorf, Germany at the Heini Klopfer ski jump.

Entrenchment

After award of the World Cup in Oberstdorf, the hill in the preparation of this has been completely remodeled. Thus, the jump was extended to a K165 and the start tower was replaced by a concrete structure. The hill record, which had been set on February 11, 1967, the Norwegian Lars Allegrini with 150 meters, fell during the World Cup and was five times improved. At the end of the hill record was 169 meters. The jump from Heinz Wosipiwo was also the new ski jumping world record and held a year. The jump to 179 meters of Walter Steiner could not stand this, so this is not run as a hill record.

Competition

The World Cup began with two training days on 8 and 9 March 1973. Having kicked off the competition on Friday, the Swiss Hans Schmid immediately jumped to 166 meters of the start-up has been reduced to the lowest level of the well, the entire competition round was bound. Due to the weather changes, however, only the two runs on March 10, have been included in the World Cup standings, which decided at the end of the German Hans -Georg Aschenbach for the end.
